Invitation for RECOM consultations in Osijek and Zagreb

Return

We have the pleasure to announce the Consultations with Religious Communities and Organisations on the Initiative for the Establishment of the Regional Commission for Establishing Facts about War Crimes and other Serious Human Rights Violations in the former Yugoslavia (RECOM). Consultations will take place in Hotel Dubrovnik (Hallroom Ban 1), Gajeva 1, Zagreb, on Friday 16 October 2009, starting at 2.00 p.m and in Osijek, hotel Waldinger, Županijska 9, on Saturday 17 October 2009, starting at 2.00 p.m.

After successful discussions in Knin, Pakrac and Vukovar we will also talk about the Initiative in Zagreb. The consultations are a continuation of many years of endeavouring to contribute actively, in partnership with the local civil society organizations, to the processes of dealing with the past while searching for those mechanisms of transitional justice that can satisfy the need for justice and truth for the victims and for the society as a whole.

Katarina Kruhonja, Centre for Peace, Non-violence and Human Rights, Osijek, and Fr. Mijo Džolan, Franciscan Institute for the Culture of Peace, Split, will open the conference. Vesna Teršelič, director of Documenta, Zagreb, and Nataša Kandić, director of the Humanitarian Law Center, Belgrade, will talk about the Initiative for RECOM. On the experiences of others will talk Msgr. Kevin Dowling of the Diocese of Rustenburg, South Africa and Ivan Novosel, Legalis, Zagreb.

The overview of the debates so far held on the Initiative can be reached at the web page http://www.korekom.org/group/23
