The programme goal is, through a structured support to the development of individuals and civil society organisations, to contribute to the development of the society based on participatory democracy and the culture of participation (intra-sector and inter-sector participation in non-violent and creative processes of positive social changes).

Through its activities the Support Programme encourages and participates in designing of a sustainable system of civil society organisations as key stakeholders of democratic society. By empowering individuals, citizens’ initiatives, and already experienced civil society organisations we want to increase the influence of civil society organisations in the process of community social development and broader.

Long-term work of the members of the Centre for Peace has been built into new and creative contents of the Support Programme. We rely on co-operation with regional civil society organisations, other regional support centres, training organisations, units of local government and self-government, and governmental institutions. An interactive designing of joint activities with local civil society organisations is enabled through regular personal, electronic, and other communication.

The Programme has been implemented with the financial and other help of international and national donors, and with whole-hearted support of volunteers and members of the Centre for Peace, Nonviolence, and Human Rights – Osijek.


Expected impact on the community

We expect that our work will result with foundation for civil society supported by local government, National Foundation for Civil Society Development, business sector, and private donations. Voluntary work will be valued as professional experience and become attractive also to the generation of young people. Regional volunteer centre will mostly gather young people who will also manage it. Governments of the City of Osijek, Osijek-Baranja County and at least two other local communities will have transparent procedures of fund allocation and monitoring of projects financially supported by them. Approximately ten new civil society organisations in the region will be recognised by the public through their social work and will become self-sustainable. Trust and cooperation within the NGO sector will be improved.
