The Award for the Promotion of Peacebuilding, Nonviolence and Human Rights "Krunoslav Sukić"

Centre for Peace, Nonviolence and Human Rights – Osijek established in 2009 the award for the promotion of peace-making, nonviolence and human rights in the honour of one of its founders, peace activist and humanist Krunoslav Sukić. His education, knowledge and actions had been motivated by recognition and respect of dignity, integrity and rights of every human being – i.e. of every living being and all creations. He was a conscientious objectioner. He had made his contribution to building peace and security through nonviolent actions towards positive social changes. The Award for the Promotion of Peacebuilding, Nonviolence and Human Rights "Krunoslav Sukić" is presented for an outstanding contribution in protection and promotion of human rights and liberties as well as the admirable and consistent efforts in promoting the culture of peace and nonviolence. With this Award, the Centre for Peace wishes to make a contribution to visibility of consistent, creative, based on solidarity and/or brave work of individuals aiming to prevent violence, reduce social injustice and build a democratic society based on the culture of nonviolence.We believe that by celebrating and expressing gratitude for actions aimed at common good that is shared and beneficial for all citizens encourages and motivates individuals to use their citizen’s political power in favour of their personal growth and positive social changes. Award for the Promotion of Peacebuilding, Nonviolence and Human Rights "Krunoslav Sukić is presented to citizens (individuals) for their contribution/work performed in the Republic of Croatia. The Award comprises a plaque - letter of thanks and a 5 000 Kuna cash reward. Author of the Award plaque design is Ivan Doroghy, Graphic Design Professor from the University of Zagreb, the Faculty of Architecture, School of Design. Certificate of Appreciation for the Promotion of Peacebuilding, Nonviolence and Human Rights "Krunoslav Sukić" is presented to citizens (individuals) or organisations for their contribution and work performed in the Republic of Croatia in a certain local community. Certificate of Appreciation for nonviolent action "Krunoslav Sukić" is presented to persons/ initiatives/organisations for nonviolent action performed in Croatia. Certificate of Appreciation for the book of the year is presented to author(s) of the book published in the Republic of Croatia for its contribution to creating an environment of better understanding peace-building, non-violent activities, human rights and civil society. Prize competition is announced every year on 5 September and is open until 15 November of the same year. Individuals, organisations or institutions can propose candidates. To propose a candidate, the following documentation must be supplied: a completed registration form, a CV from the candidate, written approval by the proposed candidate, at least one written recommendation. The "Krunoslav Sukić" Award Commission comprising five members, appointed by the Management Board of the Centre for Peace, Nonviolence and Human Rights – Osijek, shall carry out a selection process. It shall be carried out in accordance with the Ordinance on the criteria, conditions and procedure for winning the award and certificates of appreciation. The Commission comprises: Goran Božićević, Dragutin Hedl, Katarina Kruhonja, Zoran Pusić and Franka Sukić. The decision on candidate selection will be published on this Web site.
