STATUS OF THIS PROJECT: COMPLETED

Paths towards Law and Justice is a 2-year project of the Centre for Peace - Osijek financed through the CARDS 2003/2004 EU Programme for the field "Good Governance and a Rule of Law". The project has been conducted since October 2006 until end of September 2008.

The main goal of the project is contribution towards better access to law and justice in realization of human and citizen rights of vulnerable population. Specific objectives are:

1) Providing high-grade and professional help in realization and protection of individual rights of citizens from the target groups through services of free legal aid and monitoring of implementation of the law in work of authorized institutions.

2) Rising awareness of vulnerable population on their citizen and human rights and possibilities for realization of those rights

We would help you through following activities:

• provision of oral and written legal advices from various legal fields; •

submission of written official letters to administrative bodies; •

court representation through appointed attorney;

• provision of timely information on rights and commitments through field work;

• Monitoring the application of laws related to the target group and interventions with competent bodies • Informing beneficiaries through publications We offer legal aid in the following categories:

• pension insurance

• health insurance

• social welfare

• labour

• family

• protection in cases of domestic violence •

rights of civilian casualties of war

• convalidation

• inheritance rights

• unemployment rights

• civil service

Priority will have beneficiaries whose individual cases are in correspondence with the following criteria:

• Legal problem is of crucial importance for beneficiary and members of his family;

• Outcome of dispute is of crucial importance for members of client's family;

• Certain unsolved legal issues represent serious difficulties to client. Activities are intended for the following target groups:

• beneficiaries of the social welfare system

• unemployed

• retired population with the pension below 2000 HRK

• members of national minorities

• victims of domestic violence.

We do not provide our services in the following cases: trade court proceedings, criminal proceedings - apart from representation of victim of criminal offence, cases related to construction works, cases related to registration of self-employment and cases of rogue litigations.
