Trials in Serbia :: Verdict after appeal

Trial against Veljko Marić, indicted for a war crime against civilians under Article 142, paragraph 1 of the KZ SRJ.

In the first instance verdict pronounced on 23 September 2011, defendant Marić was found guilty and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The Appellate Court confirmed the first-instance verdict.


INDICTMENT (SUMMARY)

The Indictment charges Marić that he, in his capacity as member of Croatian armed formations, during the "cleansing" action in the village of Rastovac, on 31 October 1991, entered uniformed and armed the house of family Slijepčević. There he killed Petar Slijepčević in the presence of Ana Slijepčević - Petar's wife by firing at him several shots from automatic rifle.
